We have been learning all about street art and designing our own under the sea themed piece of graffiti using stencils.
On Monday 20th May, Team 11 visited the Science & Industry Museum by tram. We had a wonderful day!
Year 5 have had lots of fun completing the BBC Blue Peter 'Reading Makes Us Free' project. They designed their birds and nesting materials and the birds will be installed in Manchester Central Library. Remember - you will be able to visit your bird from Saturday 18th May 2024.

In computing, we have been learning all about vector drawings and how digital images are produced. We have learned some shortcuts such as Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V, rotation, alignment and resizing. We have used these tools to create some fantastic vector drawings!
Our unit this half term on Kapow is learning all about how songs and looped and remixed. Year 5 were asked to create their own piece of music using the Chrome Music Lab.
This half term we have been making the most of the sunshine and enjoying some different races including baton and hurdles as part of our PE.
We enjoyed a full day at IntoUniversity learning all about coding, AI, Python and Microbits.
Our first experiment was all about if materials were soluble or insoluble. We tested sugar, food colouring, oil and other materials to see if they would dissolve.
This half term, we're learning about human development and growth, mountains, Chinese inventions and plenty more!
Team 11 wore some fantastic costumes to celebrate World Book Day.
Team 11 and 12 got creative and made some beautiful mother's day cards ready for 10th March.
Year 5 attended a 'What is University?' focus workshop at St John's Church where they learnt about different courses, universities and societies.
Our topics in Spring 1 include the Shang Dynasty, Frida Kahlo and South African music. Check our website page to see what we've been up to.
We proudly performed our assembly to Year 6, parents and carers all about the learning journey we've been on so far. We then performed Shosholoza and it's definitely stuck in our heads now!
As part of our reproduction topic, Year 5 have learnt all about different habitats where animal live and how they reproduce. They then went on to make their own information books!
We have been busy learning how to perform music on the African drums including Shosholoza and other beats.
Moston Lane was covered in snow on Tuesday. Team 11 made some memories and played in it before it all melted away.
This half term has been packed full of learning and even included a trip! We've worked extremely hard during the run up to Christmas. You can learn more about what we've been doing below.
To complete our whole school write, different year groups visited each other, paired up and shared their work. Team 11 were paired with Team 5 for this and you can see their photos below.
Team 11 and 12 had a really exciting trip to Manchester Art Gallery. For some of us, it was our first time travelling on the tram! At the gallery, we had a look around all of the exhibitions and had an interactive workshop all about the Battle of Troy. It was a very cold day but we had so much fun.
We have been learning all about volcanoes in Geography this half term. We have learnt about the features of a volcano, where some famous volcanoes are located and what causes a volcano to erupt. We then went on to build our own volcanoes and make them erupt!
Our topic this half term was forces. We conducted several different experiments over the half term including:
Gravity test
We made craters using three different weighted materials to test which would fall the quickest and leave behind the largest crater.
Catapults
We learnt about levers and pulleys and made our own catapults. We then had a class competition to see which would launch an item the furthest.
We have learnt all about the Blues genre of music. We have listened to and evaluated different pieces of Blues music as well as learnt new chords to perform the 12 Bar Blues. You can watch our performance below.
Our topic this half term has been bridge building. We have learnt about different features of bridges and what makes them strong. We even built our own suspension bridge.
Our chosen religion for Interfaith Week 2023 was Judaism. We learnt about Hanukkah and each class created their own Hanukkah wreath depicting different elements featured during this celebration.

We studied the 'The Four Gentlemen' and had a go at recreating them using ink.
We've practised writing Chinese calligraphy and finally we've designed our own traditional Ming dynasty vases.
We have developed our programming skills and learnt how to code a Micro:bit.
We've studied Egyptian music and linked it to hieroglyphic symbols even creating our piece of inspired body percussion.

On 8th March 2022, we celebrated International Women’s Day across the school. In Year 5, we wrote about what we had enjoyed learning.
North City Library Trip
As part of our Local History topic, Year 5 attended a workshop at North City Library where we learnt all about Emmeline Pankhurst and The Suffragettes. Did you know that Emmeline Pankhurst held her rallies at Boggart Hole Clough? We had a fantastic day and learnt lots of new information!
Gymnastics
Team 11 have been practising our PE skills during our strength gymnastics lessons. We have been learning about how to strengthen our core muscles using a range of apparatus.
Religious Education
In our RE lessons, we have been learning about the parables that Jesus told to his followers. We read and listened to a range of parables and then in groups, re-created the parable using freeze frames.

In science, we have been learning about a range of forces. To investigate air resistance, we designed and tested a range of parachutes to discover whether the size and surface area of the parachute affected the amount of air resistance acting upon it.
Space
Year 5 worked hard on creating a moving Earth, moon and sun model. You can see their work below! We also recreated the cycles of the moon using Oreo biscuits. Yum!
